North Otago Motor Group Limited operates motor vehicle sales, servicing, genuine parts, vehicle glass, and collision repair businesses, including Toyota, Suzuki, GMNZ Holden, Novus and Oamaru Panel & Paint. References to “we”, “our” and “us” in this Privacy Policy refer to North Otago Motor Group Limited and its trading divisions.

We may indirectly collect your personal information from:

New Zealand Transport Agency’s Motor Vehicle Register in accordance with our authorisation to access for specified purposes under section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA).

Please note that you can notify the Registrar in accordance with the LTA that you do not wish to have your name(s) and address(es) made available under an authorisation (for more information see the following link: Access to Motor Vehicle Register information | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.

Individuals have rights under the Privacy Act 2020 to request access to personal information held about them and to request correction of that information where it is inaccurate. If you have requested that your name and address not be released from the Motor Vehicle Register under an authorised access arrangement, North Otago Motor Group Limited may not be able to obtain your information from the Register unless another lawful basis for access applies. Please note that opting out may affect our ability to contact you regarding matters such as vehicle ownership verification, warranty administration, service campaigns, product updates, safety recalls, or other vehicle-related matters where authorised access would otherwise apply.

Information collected through the Motor Vehicle Register

To the extent that we are a Motor Vehicle Trader (a person registered under the Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003 to carry out the activities described in section 7 of that Act) our authorised users may obtain the name and address of vehicle owners set out in the Motor Vehicle Register to:

  • confirm the vendor is the registered person of a vehicle that the Motor Vehicle Trader (the person registered under the Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003 to carry out the activities described in section 7 of that Act) is proposing to purchase;
  • assist in verifying that a change of registered person has been completed correctly for the transaction in which the Motor Vehicle Trader is the purchaser or seller; and
  • in the case of wholesalers only, where a vehicle is the subject of a safety recall listed in the safety recalls portal, contact the registered person to advise them of any required actions in relation to the vehicle’s safe operation.

The information we may obtain from the Motor Vehicle Register is limited to the registered person’s name and address as authorised under the applicable Gazette Notices.

A financial service provider that is registered under section 16(1) of the Financial Service Providers (Registration and Dispute Resolution) Act 2008 (Registered Financial Service Provider), that member may obtain the name and address of vehicle owners set out in the Motor Vehicle Register:

  • when assessing an application to provide finance in relation to a vehicle, confirm the person registered to that vehicle is the same person to whom finance is being proposed to be provided to; or
  • where the Registered Financial Services Provider has an existing security interest on the Personal Property Securities Register or similar security interest for a vehicle, confirm the registered person of that vehicle is the person to whom the Registered Financial Services Provider has provided finance in relation to that vehicle.

A Registered Financial Service Provider who is an insurer may obtain the name and address of vehicle owners set out in the Motor Vehicle Register:

  • where a vehicle has been involved in an incident resulting in damage or loss to the insurer’s client, contact the registered person of that motor vehicle to resolve any financial matters arising out of the incident;
  • when assessing an application to provide an insurance policy in relation to a motor vehicle, ensure the applicant is the registered person of that motor vehicle; or
  • when verifying entitlement to make a claim or receive a payment under an insurance policy that applies to a motor vehicle, ensure the registered person of that vehicle is the person to whom that insurance policy applies.

As a member of the Motor Industry Association, we may obtain the name and address of vehicle owners set out in the Motor Vehicle Register to:

  • provide registered persons with service campaigns for software updates to vehicle safety assist and autonomous systems and for upgrades to engine management systems for improved environmental performance;
  • verify the registered person’s ownership for warranty purposes;
  • provide registered persons with details of any extensions or possible extensions to existing warranty periods.
